End-of-summer Season’s Greetings to you! Here’s a Daily Driplet for Friday, September 20, 2019, diminished slightly and an hour late because I’m taking a day off..and by the time the sun comes up at 6:55 AM, I’ll be back in the sack! Sunset, meantime, is at 7:12 PM. Porch lights keep coming on earlier. We’ll get spotty light rain and highs around 65. Saturday is partly sunny and 70, and Sunday looks wet with 65-degree highs.

This morning’s lead story in The Oregonian doesn’t inspire confidence. Headlined “Test Scores Drop to a Five Year Low,” the report says “Oregon schools recorded their poorest performance in the five-year history of Oregon’s current reading, writing and math tests this spring, registering year-over-year declines in every grade level and among nearly every demographic group, scores released Thursday show.”

Thousands of students will walk out of school today for the Global Climate Strike.

KATU reports that a guest who jumped up and dangled from a fire sprinkler pipe is the likely cause of the flooding to all three floors of flooding at McMenamins Edgefield. The pipe couldn’t handle the person’s weight and broke, water spraying everywhere.

KGW’s reporting that a Longview Public Schools bus driver was arrested for DUI while behind the wheel with kids aboard. She was turned in by a child who called 911.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has dropped his 2020 presidential bid.

Sunday is the day of Komen Oregon and SW Washington’s More than Pink Walk…it’s the Race for the Cure, reimagined. My colleague Janine Wolf a breast cancer survivor, will be part of the opening ceremonies, then she’ll be leading the top fundraising team, and I hope you’ll join me in sending along some support! Wear a rain jacket, and be sure to say hi to Bruce Murdock and me at the finish line!

This is the weekend of the very cool Oregon International Air Show. New location–McMinnville Municipal Airport. That’s because the main runway at Hillsboro is under construction. So just imagine the British RAF Red Arrows and the U.S. Air Force F-35A Lightning II Demonstration Team zooming and darting around in the heart of Oregon’s wine country! Last I checked, premium seats were sold out for the weekend, but not yet for tonight.

Tomorrow is the last Oregon Zoo concert of the summer. It’s John Prine time, in a concert that was delayed from August 2 for health reasons. (His doc warned that he was a high stroke risk, and he cleared his calendar to have a stent put in).

Say…remember the song “I Want to Know What Love Is” by Foreigner? They’ll be at the Ilani Casino on Sunday, October 13, and when they do that song, they like to be backed up on stage by a local high school choir. I hear that they haven’t selected one yet, and if you know of a good one, send me a personal message through Facebook and I’ll connect you with details. They’re a $500 donation in it for the choir, plus, the kids get to be rock stars!

Happy birthday to FOX 12 Oregon! KPTV, Oregon’s first television station, went on the air (on UHF channel 27) this date in 1952.

My struggles with broken links in the Coffee Cup have led me to contemplate alternatives. This morning, I’m linking something that I know will work, and that I think you’ll enjoy while I brainstorm other ways to use the Cup!

And that’s a nice brief version of the DD. Love to know what you’re up to!
